Ruth Langsford has opened up about coming to a “compromise” with husband Eamonn Holmes about where they should retire when the time comes.

While appearing on the How To Be 60 with Kaye Adams and Karen McKenzie podcast, the 63-year-old said she would be open to the idea of moving to Eamonn’s native Northern Ireland.

The Loose Women host explained: “The thing is, I’ve always known he wants to be in Northern Ireland and I think we’ll have to find a compromise.

“So we’re at that stage in our lives which we never thought we’d be at, you know? When we were first together, you talk about things like it’s so far away and then suddenly you’re facing the day.

“I’m like, ‘Oh my god, we’re in our 60s’, and so I think probably we’ll end up somewhere here and there, so we’ll probably have a smaller house here and something there,” she divulged.

The ITV star went on to say that it’s a different feeling for Eamonn as he has his brothers, two of his children and his granddaughter back in Northern Ireland but all of her family are close by.

Ruth also said she needs to prioritise her elderly mother Joan, 90, but knows Eamonn, 63, wants to eventually go back to Belfast.

She continued: “When you get older, you have to think about your parents as well while they’re still alive, but I know that’s where he wants to be eventually cos he’s a Belfast boy.”

Ruth paid tribute to Eamonn last week on Loose Women for helping her overcome her imposter syndrome.

She explained: “It was Eamonn actually who went, ‘You’ve got to stop that, that’s nonsense, you’re as good as everybody else, better than many.’

“So, sometimes you need someone in your life who goes, ‘You’re really good’ or tells you to believe in yourself and you can do this.”

The pair met in 1997 through a mutual friend and tied the knot in 2010.
