Sennheiser, in collaboration with European electric vehicle (EV) maker Smart, has announced a new over-the-air (OTA) update that brings Dolby Atmos playback to the smart #5 in Europe. With this update, occupants can listen to music in Dolby Atmos through the Sennheiser Signature Sound System.
The feature is available through the Amazon Music app integrated into the car’s infotainment system. Notably, it works directly within the vehicle and does not require a smartphone connection. This marks the first time that a Sennheiser in-car sound system in Europe supports Dolby Atmos
The smart #5’s audio system features 20 speakers designed to create a “multidimensional listening experience that places passengers at the center of the music”. During development, Sennheiser’s engineers used their immersive audio studio in Zurich as a reference environment. This approach ensured that the in-car system reproduces Dolby Atmos tracks exactly as intended by the artists.
The feature will be available for the smart #5 Premium and smart #5 BRABUS variants across Europe. The free OTA update has begun rolling out since early March, with availability expanding gradually across European markets.
