As Gorka Marquez and his new celebrity partner, Sugababes star Keisha Buchanan sat down with Lorraine Kelly ahead of the Strictly Christmas special, the dancer opened up about how he’ll spend Christmas with his fiancée Gemma Atkinson and their two children, Mia, four, and Thiago, five months.
The 33-year-old shared: “The whole morning is opening presents, playing with new toys. I love the fact we open a present and it’s the most exciting present but five seconds later, there’s a new present, which is even more exciting, especially Mia.”
He adds: “She’s four and she opens presents and leaves everything around and me behind her picking up all the wrapping paper and putting it in a bag. I’m very excited to spend Christmas all together with the family and celebrate and have the best time.
“Mia is a showgirl, she loves to perform for everybody so she will be singing and dancing. I will be dancing with her, not Gemma.”
It comes after Gorka had to spend time away from his family while he was busy rehearsing and filming for Strictly Come Dancing.
Earlier this month, Gemma admitted that she felt “weird” preparing for the big day on her own while Gorka was working.
She told her 1.9 million followers: “It’s been so stressful wrapping everything. I mean it’s good, but Gorka is doing the (Strictly) Christmas special and then obviously it’s the final.
“So, he’s been away last week and he’s away another two weeks – literally until the end. So, yeah, it’s weird prepping for Christmas on my tod.”
Joking about Christmas day this year, the former Emmerdale actress added: “I’m not doing any of that, he can sort that when he’s home. He can absolutely sort that out.”
Elsewhere in Gorka’s interview with Lorraine, Sugababe Keisha revealed that the Christmas special was much tougher than she expected.
The 39-year-old singer explained: “It was definitely much more difficult than I thought, but I had so much fun!”
Gorka then added: “She’s a superstar. She came with such a positive energy, was willing to learn and we had fun.”
Lorraine’s Christmas Day show will also include appearances from the likes of Graham Norton, Boy George, Joel Dommett, Matt Lucas, and the Duchess of York.
Comedian Stephen Fry will open the show with a festive poem and Joss Stone and the Lorraine’s Change and Check Choir perform the chart-topping song, Golden.
Elsewhere in the show, Call the Midwife’s Laura Main and Georgia Glen – who play Nurse Shelagh Turner and Miss Higgings in the hit drama – confirm there will be drama – and snow – in the Christmas special.
Lorraine’s Christmas Day special, 9am on ITV1 and ITVX.
