The life of a touring musician has always been wrought with financial difficulties and uncertainty. As the cost of expenses, gas, and accommodations continue to rise, The Music Export Growth Scheme is looking to provide aid to touring artists.
Throughout the COVID pandemic, there was a large spotlight shined upon artists and venues, many of whom rely on touring to support their lifestyle. With venues shuttered and much of the world on lockdown, the UK launched the Music Export Growth Scheme, a fund designed to support and deliver assistance to touring musicians from the country. With its latest round of funding announced at £1.6 million, it will provide grants of £5,000 to £50,000 to help alleviate the financial burden of touring.
With the the export of touring artist delivering billions for the British economy, including a reported £7.6 billion in 2023, the invest in artists nets a positive return for the country. Business and Trade Secretary Peter Kyle states, “Our first-class music industry is already the envy of the world, but we are pushing to make it even bigger, giving artists the tools to go global and export to all corners of the globe.” This ongoing commitment helps ensure that artists can continue to connect with fans while also creating other domestic cashflows via live events, tourism, and more.
