Thomas Bangalter took to the stage at Warehouse Artefacts in Basel yesterday, performing a live set built around a modular and analog hardware setup.
His rig included the Doepfer A-100 Modular System, a BASF tape machine, and the Erica Synths Perkons HD-01 Black drum machine. The Doepfer A-100 is one of Europe’s most established modular systems, first introduced in 1995 by German manufacturer Doepfer Musikelektronik. The Perkons HD-01 Black is a hybrid drum machine from Latvian manufacturer Erica Synths, known for its lo-fi, characterful sound. The BASF tape machine completed the chain, adding analog saturation and tape warmth.
Warehouse Artefacts was a collaborative installation by Bangalter, visual artist Julian Charrière, and DJ and producer Rampa. The project was staged as a deconstructed dance floor drawing from underground culture and political history. It was produced by Nordstern Basel and presented in cooperation with Art Basel and Fondation Beyeler.
The event ran across two phases. A daytime immersive experience from 11:00 to 17:00 was followed by a rave from 18:00 to 23:00, featuring a DJ set by Rampa. The night continued at Nordstern Basel with after.art.klub, with sets from Desiree, Jimi Jules, and Yare.
