Kansas City is still trying to make sense of the tragic shooting that occurred at the Chiefs Super Bowl 2024 rally last week, and Travis and Jason Kelce addressed the events in a video posted on social media on Monday afternoon.
The “New Heights Podcast” duo were planning to release a pre-recorded episode on Wednesday, but after what had occurred during the end of the celebration “it didn’t feel right without you guys hearing from us first,” Travis Kelce said in the clip.
“We just wanted to say our hearts go out to all the victims, their families, Chiefs Kingdom and really all of Kansas City that was really there on a day to try and celebrate the community,” Jason Kelce said. “It’s unfortunate and deeply tragic the events that occurred. We also want to thank the local law enforcement that sprang into action. First responders on scene and anybody that’s been willing to help those affected by this tragedy.”
Wednesday’s shooting happened at the end of the celebration near Union Station and took the life of one person – 43-year-old mother Lisa Lopez-Gavlan – and left at least 39 people injured.
The 12 victims who had been children who had been treated for injuries following the shooting had been released from the hospital as of Saturday.
The pair shared a link from the podcast’s account on X for those looking to donate to the Chiefs emergency response fund.
The Kelce brothers also announced that they were planning on doing some more work to help the community in the wake of the tragic events.
“Have some ideas, but make sure you’re following and we’ll be telling you guys ways we’ll be trying to get involved,” Jason Kelce said.
“92 percenters we appreciate you. Kansas City and Chiefs Kingdom we love you guys. We’re with you guys and we’ll see you guys soon,” Travis Kelce added.
