Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to miss the wedding of their son Archie’s godfather because they don’t want to “make a fuss,” according to a royal expert.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will not be traveling to England for Hugh Grosvenor, the Duke of Westminster’s wedding next month — despite him being one of Harry’s closest childhood friends.
According to royal expert and biographer Angela Levin, Harry will be skipping out on celebrations to avoid “disturbing everybody” at the soirée. Archie is reportedly Grosvenor’s godson, but the Sussexes have never publicly confirmed.
“Who isn’t going to go is Harry because he says he doesn’t want to make a fuss there and disturb everybody. But I don’t think he’s had an invitation,” Levin told GB News.
“They realized it would be very awkward for the royals to have him here, either for their own reasons or Harry said they don’t want to come, but I think it’s the former.”
Reps for the Sussexes declined to comment.
Grosvenor, 33, is marrying Olivia Henson, 31, at Chester Cathedral in England on June 7.
With Harry out of the picture, Prince William, 41, is set to be an usher at the 400-person ceremony as Grosvenor is also the godfather to Prince George.
Levin noted that the Grosvenor family has not always seen eye to eye with the royals, as tensions reached an all-time high ahead of the wedding of Lady Tamara Grosvenor and Edward Van Cutsem in 2004.
“With the wedding of their daughter in 2004, they wouldn’t let Camilla sit next to Charles because she wasn’t married to him,” Levin revealed.
“The Queen and the King were coming, the Duke of Edinburgh was coming, and they said that she had to come differently.”
Grosvenor, whose inherited fortune is reportedly worth an estimated $12.6 billion, was introduced to Henson by mutual friends in 2021.
The couple will tie the knot at Chester Cathedral and then host a lavish reception at Eaton Hall, Grosvenor’s 11,000-acre family estate.
The next day, they will have a smaller reception at Eaton Hall for close family and friends.
King Charles III, Queen Camilla, and Kate Middleton will not be in attendance, due to Charles and Camilla’s prior engagement in France for the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
For her part, the Princess of Wales will remain behind closed doors as she continues to receive chemotherapy treatment for her cancer diagnosis.
Harry’s absence from his estranged pal’s wedding highlights just how far his feud with the royals has gone, as he was just in London for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.
During his two-day trip, for which he stayed at a hotel rather than a royal residence, the Duke didn’t see any of his estranged family members.
