Joe Swash revealed he almost burned down his mum’s kitchen after a candle blunder in his younger years.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, the on-screen star detailed a moment his family’s Christmas did not exactly go to plan.

“The only other food disaster we had on Christmas was when I nearly burned my mum’s kitchen down,” Joe commented.

He went on: “My mum likes to make these candle displays – big candle displays when we were younger. And I left the candle lit and it caught fire to one of her displays and set fire to the table.”

Fortunately, Joe said they were able to put the fire out and salvage what was left of the display.

“Luckily enough we put it out but I think the worst had happened,” Joe commented. “But [my mum] was not too best pleased with me.”

The EastEnders actor, 41, will be spending the Christmas period with his wife Stacey Solomon, 34 and the couple’s children at Pickle Cottage.

Joe’s comments come after the actor partnered with Three UK, which performed research into how Britons use their phones over Christmas.

The network’s recent study revealed that connectivity plays a vital role in our festive celebrations, with broadband access (41 per cent) and phones (38 per cent) making up the nation’s top five Christmas Day essentials.

The I’m A Celeb star revealed the moment his phone came in handy one Christmas when he previously suffered a cooking disaster after he accidentally served a dishwasher tablet in his gravy.

He commented: “It was one Christmas where I made the gravy for our Christmas dinner.

“I’ve got the pot out of the cupboard but I didn’t realise that there was still a little bit of dishwasher tablet in the pot. And everyone poured the gravy over their dinner. And it just tasted awful.

“So I had to use my phone to order some more food. So it did come in handy that day.”
