Defqon.1, the Netherlands’ iconic hardstyle festival, has just announced a significant operational change for its 2026 edition. Due to extreme weather forecast for Friday and Saturday, the Dutch festival has, together with local authorities, made the difficult decision to restrict access on those two days to Weekend Ticket holders only.
The Dutch festival framed the decision as an unavoidable safety call after extensive consultation with the municipality, emergency services and other relevant authorities. The Defqon.1 team confirmed that despite additional precautions being put in place, the combination of the forecasted temperatures and the planned visitor numbers on Friday and Saturday created risks they were not willing to take.
“Warriors, we have an important update regarding Friday and Saturday Visitors at Defqon.1. First and foremost: Defqon.1 will continue as planned for Weekend Visitors. However, due to the extreme weather forecast for Friday and Saturday, we, together with the authorities, have made the difficult decision to restrict access on those days to Weekend Visitors only. This was the only option to ensure the continuation of Defqon.1 this year. This decision was not made lightly, and it comes with a very heavy heart. We know how much this weekend means to all of you. However, the health and safety of our visitors must always come first.”

What this means for ticket holders
The Dutch festival confirmed that holders of Friday and/or Saturday Tickets will not be able to attend Defqon.1 on those days. By significantly reducing the on-site visitor numbers, and with the additional measures already implemented, the Dutch team believes the festival can deliver a safer environment for all Weekend Visitors. That includes more available shade, better access to facilities and less crowding during peak moments.
The Dutch festival also confirmed two key programming changes. The Warrior Workout on Saturday has been cancelled outright, with organisers stating that hosting a large-scale workout under the expected temperatures would not be responsible. The POWER HOUR will still go ahead as planned, but has been moved to 19:00.
Compensation and Sunday status
The Dutch team has confirmed that compensation for affected Friday and/or Saturday ticket holders will follow, with further details to be shared after the weekend. “We fully understand the disappointment this brings to everyone holding a Friday and/or Saturday Ticket,” the statement reads. “We kindly ask for your patience while we focus on ensuring a safe event for everyone on-site.”
For Sunday Visitors, the Dutch festival has confirmed that Defqon.1 will open its gates as planned when Sunday rolls around. Both the festival team and the local authorities will continue to closely monitor the weather situation across the weekend, and the team has committed to updating fans if any additional measures become necessary.
