A resident DJ at Cavo Paradiso in Mykonos for close to three decades now, Freespirit opens up on his journey within the dance scene, managing a record label and future plans among other things.
Leaving the most unique of marks within the dance scene, Freespirit is the true embodiment of an act that has dedicated his life into mastering the craft he is so passionate about. Hailing from Greece, this renowned act leaves no doubt to the imagination, whilst each of his endeavours thus far, speak volumes on the raw musical talent that he possesses. A resident DJ at Cavo Paradiso in Mykonos for close to three decades now, Freespirit has taken over the global house scene in the most emphatic of ways, and as he continues to grow on the daily, we could not be any more thrilled to be joined by the man of the moment, as he discusses main inspirations and influences, relaunching Cavo Paradiso Records, upcoming releases and collaborations, performing at major events and venues, and so much more.
Hello, and thank you for joining us! Could you provide us with some insight into the main inspirations and influences that led you to pursue a career in music?
“Hello, and thank you for having me. It is a pleasure to chat with you. I started my music career at the age of 16, playing in my hometown and local bars. Two years later, I took what was probably the most important step in my career. I visited Mykonos for a short holiday and performed at some of the island’s famous beach clubs and clubs. Before the season ended, I played at Cavo Paradiso for the first time. Since then, I’ve been returning every summer and have continued my residency there.”

With versatility being a key aspect of the dance scene, we would like to know about the origins of your style and how it has evolved over time?
“I’ve always been excited by strong drums and heavy basslines. I grew up listening to artists like Danny Tenaglia, Chus & Ceballos, Steve Lawler, Joe Claussell, John Creamer & Stephane K, and the Global Underground series. Their DJ sets had a huge influence on my musical taste. Over the years, my sound has evolved, but I always try to combine groove, emotion, and energy while staying true to my own style.”
Having been a resident DJ at Cavo Paradiso for over two decades, could you talk us through that experience as a whole and explain how this iconic venue has helped shape your career so far?
“Being a resident at a club like Cavo Paradiso for so many years is an incredible experience. This summer marks my 26th season in Mykonos and as a resident DJ at Cavo Paradiso. It’s like a big school for me. Playing opening, peak-time, and after-hours sets has made me very flexible as a DJ and helped me understand how to connect with different crowds and nationalities. Even on nights when I’m not playing, just being there helps me understand what a dancefloor needs to come alive. Sharing time with some of the biggest artists in the world and discussing new trends in the industry has also been a huge part of my growth.”

As the label manager and A&R for Cavo Paradiso Records, what sets this imprint apart from the rest, and how would you describe the label’s identity and sound?
“It was my idea to relaunch Cavo Paradiso Records after many years. The label existed before under a different concept, mainly releasing DJ mix compilations. The idea now is simple: we release quality dancefloor music without being limited to just one genre. Since the club hosts many different styles every summer, the label follows the same philosophy. Having direct contact with many of the world’s top artists helps us receive exclusive demos and grow the label. At the same time, we’re proud to support talented new producers by giving them a platform to release their music. Every year we also release a limited edition of 200 colored vinyl copies featuring our best-selling tracks, exclusively for the clubbers who visit Mykonos and Cavo Paradiso.”

With some major international shows coming up, could you talk us through the events and venues you’ll soon be performing at, as well as your preparation process for each one?
“This season is very exciting for me. I’ll be performing at two major festivals: Electric Love Festival in Salzburg in July and Untold Festival in Romania. Alongside my residency at Cavo Paradiso, I’ll be sharing the lineup with artists like Hugel, Diplo, Meduza, Alex Wann, Deep Dish, and many more. In September, I’ll return to one of my favorite spots in Ibiza, the Wild Corner at Hï Ibiza, and in November we’ll have a very exciting Cavo Paradiso takeover at the legendary Ministry of Sound in London.”

With new releases and collaborations on the way, could you give us any hints about your upcoming music and the artists you’ve been working with recently?
“This year has been full of new music and collaborations with artists I admire and respect. I’ve already released a few tracks with Eran on Cavo Paradiso Records, as well as a remix for Claptone’s latest album, ‘Wanderlust.’ We also have more music coming later this year. I’m also very excited to be working with the talented producer and good friend High Notes. Together we have several releases coming on labels including Side of the Moon and MoBlack, among others. I’ve also released music with Marasi, Melo, and Gustavo, who are all great friends and amazing producers. Another exciting project is a few tracks with the legendary Glenn Morrison, including one collaboration with Glenn and Ronnie Spiteri, which will be released later this year. I also have several solo releases planned for late 2026 and early 2027.”
Looking ahead, what does the future hold for Freespirit, both creatively and in your role as a label manager?
“My main goal is to continue growing Cavo Paradiso Records, supporting the electronic music scene, and helping new artists develop their careers. Personally, I want to keep releasing quality music on my dream labels, continue collaborating with talented artists, and perform on some of the biggest stages around the world.”
Remarkable to say the very least, Freespirit continues to write his own story within our community, and with a career of such calibre, it is not hard to see why success follows his every move.
