After a deliberate year away from releases, one of the most quietly consequential names in contemporary dance music is back. Australian producer, singer and DJ Pretty Girl returns with the ‘Body Step’ EP, out now via her own label earthside. The two-track project pairs the title cut with ‘Satisfy’, both riding her own vocals across the space between the peak-time dancefloor and the comedown. She also enters this next chapter with new industry backing, having signed with Leon Alexander and Jamie Porten at Red Light Management.
The title track has a properly rooted origin story. ‘Body Step’ began in a Tottenham studio with a Prophet-5 and came together slowly across a summer of dancing, drawing on memories of dancefloors around the world. “I really just love dance music and I love to dance, and this song was made for exactly that,” Pretty Girl said. Speaking about the year away, she explained: “A very important part of producing is knowing what you want, and when I found myself unable to answer that question I decided to go internal for 12 months. That time gave me freedom to go deeper with my sound and to really enjoy making music again, and I’m coming back with music that I feel so proud of.”
The EP lands at a properly high point. Since Resident Advisor called her “a star in the making” in 2023, Pretty Girl has played Coachella, gone viral on Boiler Room, toured alongside Bonobo, remixed Romy and Fred again.. on ‘Strong’, and signed to Mall Grab’s Steel City Dance Discs. Earlier this June she delivered a 90-minute mix for the RA Podcast (RA.1043), a series reserved for some of electronic music’s most compelling personalities. Real name Emilia Predebon, the Melbourne-born artist has released three prior EPs including ‘Middle Ground’ (2021), ‘One Night, One Time’ (2023) and ‘Get Back to Me’ (2024), plus a Fabric Mix CD, with a debut album now in development.
